The girls take a step back in time.
They learned about how Girl Scouts started (before women could vote). They watched videos about early badges that Scouts could earn, including the Child Nurse badge which was the first badge ever awarded in Girl Scouts in 1913. They read one of the FIRST versions of the Girl Scout promise and law from an actual copy of the first "Scouting for Girls" book published in 1918. They worked on a step from a badge from the 1963 version of the Junior Handbook, making yarn dolls, and even received an authentic Toymaker Badge from 1963 (pictured at right). They continue the tradition of Girl Scouts, just as so many girls have done for over a century, and now have a piece of history to connect them to scouts from decades ago. |
It may be cold outside, but the Scouts give warm thanks to members of the community that lend helping hands throughout the entire year.
